HATW Ride 2 Day 4 Bankrut to Chumphon 126kms

The biggest day so far....thank Bhudda for the rest day.

Today was the day that we got a taste of the rolling hills to come in the second part of the ride. There was the usual apprehension but as a group we handled them well from the fast and strong riders, down to those at the tail who toiled away all day. Some of the stronger riders are going back or staying with the back markers to ensure we continue to get through  and the spirit is strong in the  group. Kia kaha.

There was a lot of wind and a few of our coastal rides and stops were reminiscent of Wellington on a gusty spring day....just warmer. Because we had some side and tail winds it was fast day notwithstanding the hills. My avge speed was up - 26.8kms for the day. Didn't have time for too many photos!

I am finding the 2nd ride physically harder than the first. The NE ride had bumpier roads, but the speed and the hills of the second ride along with the increase in temperature is more energy sapping. The stage after lunch on day 4 I found I was dehydrated, guzzling my water bottle within 10kms. Rehydrated and replenished at the last stop with water, water melon, concentrated energy drink and peanut brittle- perhaps Lance A should have followed a similar regimen? The last leg was still a struggle and I and others were very happy to see the hotel.... and to start preparing for party night ( no details available publication once again).

Today, the rest day has been sleep in, chill out, clean equipment, grab a massage and catch up on blog day. We hit the roads for the final 400kms.... and the hills.... from tomorrow.....
