HATW NE Thailand Ride Day 5 - Nakhon Phanom to Muk Dahan115km (+GPS link)
A short blog follows a long day. Chris is already asleep and I am not far behind.... once the icepack on my knee is finished with,
A varied day to follow our rest day. We started out with some smooth highway riding, then a visit to a school to hand out some balls and more hands toys. I was impressed with the brand of windows they had at the school.
More road riding followed on slightly rougher roads and following the Wellington theme some strongish side and head winds. Heading to lunch we had a variety of roads and a visit to an impressive Wat ( temple) the name of which I will add later. We had one rider (John Brown) down in a a specatacular collision with a local child on a bike. The child was no worse for wear but John is bruised.... but thankfully not broken.
Lunch included a spicy cucumber dish similar in some ways to som tam (spicy papaya salad) which was aroi mak ( very delicious).
The vists to the school and the temple made for a long day and the post lunch riding was tough for most. Some good pace was set on the flat roads but some unexpected sand on one back road section took it out of the legs as did a short sharp hill before a stop at some Mekong rapids. The final legs into town took us to about 5:30pm.Time for quick shower some clothes washing before out to town for dinner.
Tomorrow 94 kms..... the day after 134kms.....
