HATW Ride 2 South Thailand Day 2 Hua Hin to Prauchap KhiriKhan 121km

An extraordinary day started out ordinarily with a quiet ride out of Hua Hin. As we ride the details of each leg, the sights and landmarks and the water and lunch stops come back to me from last year. Just out of Hua Hin we headed around a picturesque lake on some nice single track and than onto our first water stop at 22kms.

As we left the water stop the rain started. Not common for this time of year but not unknown. Because of the rain we were taking things carefully and as we approached a sharp bend at the 29kms mark the call came to slow down. As we slowly went around the bend tour leader Chris's bike went from under him and he slid along the road towards oncoming traffic which thank fully was also slowing in the rain. A split second later between 8-15 bikes were down ( estimates vary) as we hit an oil patch made greasy by the rain. Lots of scrapes and bruises by no serious injuries, and personally my first "down" in Thailand. apparently this spectacular crash has been captured on film so we will eventually get to see and relive it.
Having picked ourselves up we stopped at a sala up the road and awaited for the rain to stop before continuing.

The rest of the day went to plan except for a spate of puncture caused by thorns and twigs. Some great group riding along the coast, inland on salt flats to a temple, some back road and highway riding to a corner stop at 105kms and a celebration for those riders passing 100kms in a day for the first time and then a sweep down to the coast and our hotel with great views across the bay.

The day was a long one but a fair number made it into the pool  in fading late to celebrate  a big day with a cold Chang beer. Most were in bed early after dinner......
