HATW Ride 2 Day 3 Prauchap Khiri Khan to Bankrut 74km

A shorter riding day started with a beautiful breakfast sunrise over the bay.....same same as last year..

From breakfast we took a leisurely ride onto a Thai airforce base to a Liguar monkey colony. Before setting off I snapped  a few photos Leanne Craddock ( Chch- Sydney) and her Kiwi/Oz bike.

The liguar monkeys are  better natured than the more prevalent common monkeys. This year they were a little reticent to come for the peanuts and bananas we had for them and generally stayed in the trees or  up on rocks to be fed.The very interested dog that appeared as we were leaving might explain their cautiousness.

The next leg tot the 1st water stop featured a spectacular fall by Emily Fitzpatrick when her front wheel became wedged while crossing a railway line. That she escaped with  a few bruises was remarkable.

A few riders were itching to get away by the time the 1st water stop was over and fast highway leg ensued. The little chase group I got into had some good riders and I topped out at 47.5 kmh on the speedo, way above what I could  do on my own. The six riders from the first NE Ride had a little mini celebration at this point for passing 1000 kms of riding.

After that we rode on  back roads through beautiful shady coconut plantations, meeting up from time to time with a royal motorcade as the Princesses father in law was visiting the same villages we were passing through.

( sweat on the camera lens!)

Some more riding at a good pace on  the road saw us arrive at our destination in time for a late lunch - the traditional day 3 lasagne, spaghetti and ice cream at Byron's restaurant, to make a change from Thai food.

This gave us good time at the resort for massages, washing and internet before dinner and another visit to Byron's for drinks by the outside fire....its winter don't you know 23 -24 degrees in these parts at night...
