The Big Ride Day 5 Chumphon to Lang Suan

Day 5 - the day after the rest day. 111kms. It actually felt good to be getting back on the bikes. A bit of everything today. Started and finished at a beach. After the beach start we rode through downtown Chumphon making an unscheduled stop to buy more fireworks for the night. There was some time on small country roads and along highways with some headwinds. Felt like I was getting my bike legs today. the more experienced riders taught the rest of us about group riding and rotation and average speeds are going up as a result. Riding faster and longer than I have ridden before which is a pretty good feeling. The feeling amongst the group is good.

A sharp steep hill at the 75km mark tested most of us out but a great coastal view was the reward....and a water stop.

At night we took a bus 45 mins to a Duang Prateep Foundation project ( Prateep is riding the Big Ride this year), The Chumphon New Life Project which is an establishment for young men, with drug, alcohol ans/or crime problems. Also there were younger children from another Prateep Foundation home who have been rescued from the streets. They treated us to dinner and entertainment including a fire show and we put on a (great) fireworks display as Chinese New Year is this week. Back to the hotel by bus .....another long day.
