Days 7 & 8 Northern Ride 2015

Day 7 was the longest day of the ride. At 133 kms it was 20km further than any other day and windy too. Some nice varied stages with dirt road, concrete and bitumen. Great lunch of pad Thai with chilled fresh coconut juice helped.

We had tailwinds at times but the last 30kms was largely a headwind which taxed the will, the legs.... and the backside.

As always there is always a reward. In this case a good hot shower and a last night wind down.

Day 8 Final Day

Our last day ended up around 83 kms. A coolish overcast day with a mix of roads again.

Our back markers Mae Thiew and Chris set off early on the second leg, as they do for each leg to get a head start, but this time jumped the gun and missed a turn. The wait while they were located meant we rode a rearranged route....and saw some brand new countryside.

Our procession into Home Hug differed from last time I rode in 2013 when we came in off the highway. This time we came in via country lanes and were greeted by Thai soldiers and staff and children riding in a jeep.

After finding our designated child (mine was 13 yr old Ja) whose photo we had each been carrying, and a flag raising and anthem ceremony (Thailand, Australia, NZ, USA and UK) we feasted on lunch before doing some activities with the children.

Together we looked at the farm animals, planted a papaya tree, painted a picture and played games.

Each time I have returned to Baan Home Hug I have found the children happier, healthier and more confident which is what all the fundraising and riding is really  all about.

That night we finished with dinner, entertainment from the children and the now traditional all in dance fest with the children at our hotel before we bid a sad farewell....'till next time.

Well done Andrew (and fellow riders). Andrew, you have reached half way!!! Thank you for keeping all your fans back home updated and interested in your progress. We can really get a feel for the comraderie that existed on the ride, and the fun and absolute joy of arriving at Home Hug. Now it is time to join Sue for the next leg. Good luck. Hope your body is ready for it!!! GO THE BLAIR TEAM!
